Fundraiser for the Monona Public Library Early Childhood Literacy Program
The 2009 Monona Pie Party is a fundraiser for the Monona Public Library's Early Literacy Program.
For many years now the Monona Public Library has provided tools and experiences for younger children which enhance their ability to learn to read. However, much more is needed and, because of limited resources, the Monona Public Library is seeking outside funds to provide more collections, programs and services in this area. The library wants to expand the ability to serve the well documented needs of children from 0 to 6 with more specialized computer access, diverse toys, games, and learning opportunities. Monona Public Library’s target is to create a stimulating learning environment for the toddler and preschool child and their families. With this expanded environment the library will assist families in the community and help make every Monona pre-school child a child that is ready to read and succeed in school.
To do so the Monona Public Library needs more specialized play and learning equipment that will enhance the acquisition of pre-literacy and literacy skills which help prepare our children to do their best in school. The library desires to expand the number of early literacy computers from two terminals to four to meet the demands currently experienced. Also, the library would like to purchase more toddler books that allows the child to explore shapes, colors, letters, etc. Finally, The Monona Public Library wants to establish a core parenting collection in the Children’s library that will provide support and encouragement to parents in our area. The total cost of this expanded program is projected to be about $7,000

Those playing to win:
Some bakers are contributing pies just for fun. But, if baking to win sounds like even more exciting, here are a few options bakers might consider, beyond baking the best tasting pie.
1) The bidding sheet has a section at the bottom where bakers may include personal stories related to their pie entry. Some suggestions based on past pie parties:
2) Bakers are encouraged to promote the event through family, friends, work, and organizations they belong to. The baker's kit includes flyers for non- bakers that might want to attend the event. Also, click on the "Flyer" button to print out a flyer that can be downloaded and posted where it might strike the curiosity of others.
